If you love photography, you may want to start a career in the photography business. It might be perfect for you and your life right now. There are 3 main areas of photography, they are general, commercial, and advertising. Most people will go into the area that best interests them and that is usually general photography. You will need some form of formal training in photograph y if you want to experience a lot of success in the fields of commercial or advertising photography. It does not matter how much experience you may have with taking photographs you will always learn something new about the art of photography if you take classe. Most of the courses that you can take will focus you on the business end of the field. After the course it is up to you, do you join an existing company or start a company of your own and find your own niche in the photography market.

General photographers usually run their own business and work from home and initially do not use the job as their sole income. They gaim their work by small ads or word of mouth, rarely having a storefront. There work generally includes weddings, senior portraits, and family pictures. At the start of your career concentrating on general photography will help get freelance work. This is where you can build relationships with commercial businesses, as well as with people in the community and clients.

Commercial photographers work in a different field of photography. Commercial photographers mainly work for companies and not the community. This includes working for catalogues, newspapers and, architectural businesses that need photographs taken. A commercial photographer may on the company staff or be a freelance photographer and work by contract. Freelancers are able to have a flexible schedules, but cannot they rely on a steady income, unlike staff photographers. Most commercial photographers specialize further and hone their skills towards areas such as food or exterior architecture.

Advertising photographers have the hardest job of all trying to break the monopoly in this genre of photography, but they will be able to command high rates of exposure when they do break into the market. They will get their name in magazines, on TV and even on advertising hordings. They media channels for them are limitless. To get into advertising photography is very difficult. You have to climb the corporate ladder to find success.
